A Norfolk Punch in the Doll’s Eye
Norfolk Punch is one of my favourite non-alcoholic drinks. It is an adults’ drink though, even without the alcohol; it’s not too sweet and has a distinctive taste that kids don’t seem to like. Norfolk Punch is made from “a 700 year old mediaeval monastic recipe containing over 30 herbs, berries and spices, with no alcohol, no preservatives, no artificial flavours, no artificial colouring”.
I “discovered” Norfolk Punch while living, of all places, in Biloela. The local Woolies had it in the health food aisle at a price of around $8 a bottle, another reason why I call it an adults’ drink. Then they stopped stocking it. And I forgot about it until recently in Cairns where we had a joyous reunion at Neil’s Organics. Quite an expensive store, but, in this case, I didn’t care about the price.
Now I’m down to my last bottle. I don’t go to Cairns very often so I’m looking – ha – for a local source – ha. Woolies don’t have it. Maybe the health shop in Mission Beach?
